Van Nuys: A man climbed to the top of a power pole around midnight on the 13800 block of Sherman Way, disrupting traffic while first responders attempted to reason with him. The Los Angeles Fire Department and Los Angeles Police Department responded to the location and found the man approximately 30 feet up a power pole near the high voltage lines.
The Department of Water and Power was requested and seen disconnecting the power to the pole. LAFD requested crisis negotiation units to the location in attempts to reason the man down off the pole. As of 1:00 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 28, the man was still on top of the power pole. Sherman way remained closed in both directions, and remained closed for an unknown duration while the incident unfolded.
The L.A. Department of Transportation was requested to relieve LAPD officers at 1:05 a.m. It is unknown at this time why the man climbed the pole in the first place, but he was visibly irate while crews attempted to communicate with him.
