Hundreds of families considering a move to a rural city in southeastern Indiana are interested in a program offering stand-in 'grandparents' to babysit their children as part of an incentive program to attract remote workers.
As part of the program, Tami and Dan Wenning offered to serve as grandparents for children from the first five families to move to Greensburg. If more new residents move in, other grandparents in the community are prepared to offer assistance, Tami Wenning said.
In this program, parents can get free babysitting for up to a year.
The initiative launched just two weeks ago and has already generated more than 1,000 applications, said Evans Hock, co-founder of MakeMyMove, a directory that matches remote workers with opportunities across the country.
According to Hock, the unique incentive has been a major driver of interest, and there are currently discussions about the scalability of the Greensburg program
