How Homer got its own Peace Tree
On August 30, 2019 former Homer resident Steve Yoshida, US Heiwa made the announcement “we now have a new Heiwa nursery in Homer, Alaska!” Kevin Co, who works at the Homer Public Library, created a Sadako display and agreed then to serve as the nursery curator. “Heiwa” is the Japanese word for peace. Election results certified in municipal elections
The Homer City Council and the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly this week certified the final municipal election results. The council certified and swore in returning and new council members Donna Aderhold, Shelly Erickson and Jason Davis at its Monday meeting in Homer. The assembly certified the election at its Tuesday night meeting. There was no change in the winners according to last week’s unofficial results, with Mike Tupper elected to the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly, District 9 seat and Tim Daugharty elected to the Kenai Peninsula Borough Board of Education, District 8 seat. Kathryn Ault, Helen Armstrong and Willy Dunne were elected to the South Peninsula Hospital Service Area Board. Although they ran unopposed, there were some write-in votes for candidates in each seat.
