OAKLAND (CBS SF) — Armed with search warrants, Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies have busted one of the largest illegal marijuana growing operations in California, seizing over 100,000 plants and upwards of $10 million in cash. The raids took place at multiple locations on Wednesday, but sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Wells Fargo & Co. isn’t liable to Oakland, Calif., under the Fair Housing Act for its allegedly discriminatory lending practices, the en banc Ninth Circuit said. Oakland alleged that Wells Fargo’s discriminatory lending practices for minority borrowers caused higher default rates, which triggered higher foreclosure rates that drove down the value of city properties.
