A Harlem man has been arrested and detained by police after he allegedly shot and killed his pregnant ex-girlfriend as she returned home from her baby shower.
Justin Soriano, 40, was taken into custody in the Bronx Thursday morning.
"Our warrant guys are second to none in the city in tracking down people -- through numerous investigative leads, interviewing witnesses, help from the community, we tracked down to an acquaintance house in the Bronx and we apprehended him on Carlisle Place," said Chief of Detectives James Essig.
Soriano reportedly got into a dispute with Shanice Young's current boyfriend on Sunday outside of her home. Police also say that Soriano, the alleged shooter, Was the father of Young's unborn baby. The baby also died.
Young allegedly broke up with Soriano about two months ago. Her father said there was domestic violence involved.
"[The gunman] came in chasing the boyfriend," Jose Morales, the super of the building, told The New York Daily News. "They ran through here and out the other side and they ran downstairs."
Young was shot once in the head, allegedly by her ex-boyfriend. Police officers say he was wearing a mask at the time. Young had stepped in to break up the fight.
"Shanice was nine months pregnant...she was nine months pregnant," said her sister, Metania, told ABC7. "Shanice was a victim, She didn't have four children - she had two, and the third one died with her," her sister added.
"They were unloading the stuff from the baby shower," Young's friend Candice' told the news outlet. "The gifts were lined up in the hallway, and she was going back outside when she got shot. I'm shaken up by it," Candice continued. "Who the f---k shoots a pregnant woman? You've got to be out of your mind."
Young is survived by her two other children and her two younger siblings, who had also been in her care.
