Graphite One resumes field work after 2020 halt
Graphite One began another round of core drilling earlier this summer at its Graphite Creek project site about 37 miles north of Nome, near Mary’s Igloo. The Nome-Beltz Lady Nanooks started its volleyball season with a trip to Fairbanks the weekend of Aug 27-28. Originally, the team was supposed to travel to Seward on Aug. 27, but they had to change plans the week before the game. Instead of Seward, the Lady Nanooks played three games in Fairbanks. Read more

Nome celebrates wet Labor Day
Despite rain, stiff winds and temperatures of 39°F, hardy Nomeites donned their rain gear and came out to cheer on the five participating teams in the 45th running of the Labor Day Great Bathtub Race, organized by KICY. The rules were the same as always: One bathtub on wheels, one captain in the tub with water and four runners propelling the vehicle. Competing were athletes from Nome Beltz Varsity Volleyball team, the Junior Varsity team, The Tide Pod, a Greatest Showman-themed team and a KNOM crew. Read more
