Cross country season

With school in session and kids in sports, fall time is always an exciting time of year. Kids have been running and they are doing great! In Bethel we have the Mamterilleq Mile for the Elementary and JH runners. The BRHS team also competed in Soldotna and Palmer, and on Nelson Island they have been having races also. We encourage our students all to be active in sports, clubs, the arts, or in volunteering. “Don’t limit your challenges. Challenge your limits,” says Nelson Island Schools XC Coach Caitlyn Tully. Six candidates certified for Bethel city council

The City Clerk’s Office certified six candidates for the October 5, 2021, City of Bethel, Regular Election. The candidate are incumbents Mark Springer and Conrad “CJ” McCormick, and Mary “Beth” Hessler, Jess Schroeder, Jared Karr, and Eric Whitney. There are four city council seats up for election with a term expiration of October 2023. The last day to register to vote is September 5th, 2021 and early voting absentee by-mail and special needs voting opens on September 20th, 2021. Read more

Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Tribal Broadband Consortium seeks to bring affordable broadband interent to member tribes

Akiak, Alaska – August 25, 2021 – The Yukon-Kuskokwim (YKD) Tribal Broadband Consortium, a 501(c)3 nonprofit Tribal Organization, is submitting a large NTIA Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program (TBCP) grant application to bring affordable broadband internet to all of its Member Tribes. The Consortium received notice today from one of its Tribal Members, the Orutsararmiut Native Council (ONC), that they are withdrawing from the Consortium. ONC resolved to instead join with the Bethel Native Corporation (BNC) who recently announced a commercial agreement with GCI to submit a separate NTIA TBCP grant application to run a fiber optic cable to Bethel.
