Police in Arkansas arrested a woman after finding her elderly mother's mummified body at their shared home. 73-year-old Gloria Pike was discovered dead, wrapped in newspaper, inside the Lincoln house where she resided with daughter Geanee, 54.
Police say Geanee Pike attempted to access the money her deceased mother was receiving on a monthly basis through her social security disability check. Gloria Pike's brother reported her missing after claiming that he had not seen his sister in almost a year.
During the time of Gloria Pike's disappearance, she was suffering from stage four breast cancer. In addition to refusing to allow officers to search her mother's home, Geanee Pike denied knowing anything about her mother's credit card or bank account. However, the bank account records of the missing woman indicate that a transaction was made at Dollar General in Lincoln. Geanee Pike was identified in surveillance footage from the store, and a warrant for financial identity fraud was issued.
Gloria Pike's body was discovered on a bed next to her daughter's bedroom, which was located next to the kitchen/living room. It was reported that the deceased was mummified and wrapped in newspapers, as well as covered in bedding.
Her mother died of natural causes, but Geanee Pike did not report it to the police. She reportedly covered her mother's body with a blanket after she died. Authorities say Geanee Pike was owed money by her mother and was going to repay her through her monthly Social Security payments. After her mother's death, she allegedly admitted to accessing her mother's bank account. In addition to the abuse of a corpse, Geanee Pike was accused of financial identity theft.
