Georgia has a Murder Mystery: Authorities say "It's not a Serial Killer"

Georgia State News by Betty Smith, Crime and Justice Bureau Chief

There has been a firm message to the public to not only squash rumors of a serial killer out on the loose but an urgency to find the killer who murdered Katherine Janness, 40, and slayed her dog at Piedmont Park in Atlanta Georgia. Police have even put out additional photos from surveillance to help resolve and bring the killer to justice.

Kate Janness, was found inside the Piedmont Park entrance about 1 a.m. This past Sunday, July 28. She was stabbed repeatedly in what the Georgia police chief described as a gruesome scene. Bowie, her dog, was found dead nearby.

According to Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, there have been several reports of a serial killer on the loose in her city. There is no evidence to support this claim."

Because Janness was a member of the city’s LGBTQ community, it was also addressed speculation that the killing was a hate crime.

The Mayor also stated, “As of now, we don’t have any proof of that,”. They immediately even sought the help from the FBI stating they needed as many resources on this as possible. "

Emma Clark, Katie’s Wife has even started a go fund me page to help cover the Funeral expenses of this tragic loss that has shortened the life of her loved one.

In her own words: I lost the love of my life and my baby boy. It was tragic. She was the most intelligent, kind, humble, and beautiful person I have ever known. I wanted to spend every second with her. He was the sweetest, most loyal companion. My heart is so very broken, my world will never be the same. Thank you to everyone who has reached out. It is truly appreciated.
