(DALLAS-FORT WORTH, Texas) Because Sunday’s severe thunderstorms, almost 300 flights were canceled or delayed at DFW International Airport on Monday, The Dallas Morning News reports.
More than two inches of rain accumulated on Sunday near the airport, leading to almost one-quarter of all flights being canceled. Ground stops were also mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
“We experienced cancellations and delays yesterday and this morning due to weather at DFW, which resulted in ATC (air traffic control) impacts, two ramp closures yesterday and a current ground stop at DFW Airport,” American Airlines spokesperson Gianna Urgo said in a statement.
Meanwhile at Dallas Love Field on Sunday, 6% of flights were canceled, and 96 flights, more than a quarter, were delayed. On Monday, there were 14 cancellations and 42 delays at Love Field.
Weather incidents with heavy thunderstorms can disrupt schedules because, according to American Airlines, pilots and flight attendants may reach the FAA limit on work hours during these times. American Airlines needed over a week to recover from a weather event in May.
