Off Duty Kentucky Deputy Dies in ATV Collision

Kentucky State Police responded to a fatality involving an ATV in Hardin County.

On July 30, 2021, at approximately 8:00 ET, Kentucky State Police was notified by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office requesting assistance investigating a collision where an off-duty deputy had been involved in an ATV collision resulting in the deputy’s death.

The investigation revealed that Kevin Johnson, age 36 of Elizabethtown, was operating an ATV near the 100 block of Lincoln Ave. when he lost control of the ATV and ran off the roadway and struck a fence. 

Johnson was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Hardin County Coroner's Office. A 7-year-old passenger on the ATV was flown to Norton Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Kentucky State Police was assisted at the scene by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office, Hardin County EMS, and the Hardin County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing by Trooper John Goldsborough.
