(DETROIT) On Thursday, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced that the state will be disbursing $10 million in emergency relief funding to assist southeastern Michiganders whose homes, businesses and belongings were damaged by late June flooding.

Per Fox 2 Detroit, the funds will be given to communities on the basis of greatest need.

From June 26 to 27, 5-7 inches of rain poured down on Southeastern Michigan and left flooded streets and homes in its wake.

The funds were made possible by President Joe Biden approving a disaster declaration for Michigan earlier this month as a result of the destructive June flooding.

During her announcement, Whitmer added that the aid will fill the gap for people who have already submitted claims through the federal Small Business Administration and FEMA, but "did not receive as much support as they needed to rebuild."

According to Whitmer, around 30,000 people have signed up for federal assistance with more expected to do so.
