Speed, impairment contributed to the fatal car crash in Chandler (Chandler, AZ)

Police believe the driver in a fatal single-car accident in Chandler might have been impaired and speeding.

The incident took place just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday evening at Gilbert and Chandler Heights roads. According to the reports, a vehicle traveling north on Gilbert Road swerved east and rammed into a traffic pole at the northwest corner of the intersection. The fire trucks also responded to the scene.

The driver, a woman in her 20s, received injuries following the crash. Her passenger, a man in his 20s, was declared deceased at the hospital. After colliding with the pole, the car struck a second vehicle. Nobody in that car was injured, police mentioned. According to Sgt.
