On Tuesday night, a woman lost her life and another person suffered injuries in a head-on collision on Avenue 15 near Road 29.
As per the initial information, the two-vehicle accident occurred on eastbound Avenue 15, east of Road 29 at about 9:15 p.m. Preliminary investigation showed that a westbound Hyundai Elantra was traveling on the eastbound lanes when it crashed into a Chevrolet pickup head-on. The 41-year-old male Chevrolet driver, a resident of Madera, tried to veer the vehicle to the left to avoid the crash, but ended up hitting the Hyundai.
On arrival, emergency crews declared the Hyundai driver, a woman in her 20s, deceased. The Chevrolet driver was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center via helicopter with major injuries. It is still unknown if drugs or alcohol contributed to the crash.
The crash remains under active review.
