Authorities identified Meriem Amimi who died in a fatal three-vehicle accident on US 50 (South Lake Tahoe, CA)

Authorities released the name of Meriem Amimi, a resident of Sparks, as the woman who lost her life in a U.S. Highway 50 multi-vehicle wreck on Thursday, July 22.

According to the officials, Meriem Amimi died after driving recklessly on U.S. Highway 50 near Tamarack Pines Road and Sierra-at-Tahoe. Amimi was driving a 2006 Saturn Vue and was speeding and unsafely passing other cars.

Her vehicle then crashed into a 2015 Chevrolet that was traveling in the opposite direction, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Saturn was torn in two pieces after the impact and Amimi was ejected from the car.

Half of the Saturn crashed into a 2013 Toyota that was behind the Chevrolet. CHP stated that Amimi died of her injuries at the scene. The passengers of the Chevrolet, all of whom were aged 20 years old and younger, were taken to the hospital.

One passenger was transported to Renown Medical Center with serious injuries and the driver, as well as four other passengers were rushed to Barton Medical Center with serious injuries. The driver of the Toyota was taken from the scene by family. The Chevrolet caught fire for a short time and was put out by concerned citizens who stopped to help.

An investigation is continuing.
