(OAKLAND, Calif.) Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 48-year-old man in East Oakland, East Bay Times reports.
Authorities have not released the identity of the victim. This marks the 74th homicide of 2021 to be investigated in Oakland.
The shooting happened on Saturday at approximately 9:30 a.m. in the 1600 block of 23rd Avenue in the area of Garfield Park, according to reports.
Investigators have not determined if the shooter was on foot or in a passing vehicle. Officers responding to the shooting pronounced the man dead at the scene.
A possible motive for the shooting has not been announced and no arrests have been made.
Authorities closed down 23rd Avenue between Foothill Boulevard and East 17th Street during the investigation.
Oakland has seen a steep increase in homicides in 2021. There were 45 reported homicides to be investigated in the city at this time last year.
