(LANSING, Mich.) During an interview with Fox News' Tucker Carlson on Wednesday evening, former Detroit Police chief James Craig announced that he will be entering the Michigan gubernatorial race.

Per Fox 2 Detroit, Craig's announcement comes after weeks of speculation that he would run for Michigan's highest political office.

"I've got to tell you, I am running," Craig said. "When I look at what some politicians are doing across our country, you know, let's talk about Governor Whitmer, she follows different rules. She just does."

His gubernatorial announcement also came after an announcement earlier in the day that an exploratory committee had been formed to start raising funds for a gubernatorial run.

Earlier this month, Craig gave his first political speech at a GOP event in Jackson, Michigan, and accused Democrats of pushing a "victimhood mentality."

On Wednesday, Craig also released a politically-centered YouTube video titled "Leading From The Front."

While on Carlson's show, Craig told viewers to look up his website chiefjamescraig.com which includes the slogan "Lead from the front. Solve Problems. That's what Michigan needs."
