Some people just get it.

I was on a run yesterday and saw an older gentleman in a blue tracksuit walking up and down his driveway. Although he was moving slow, I couldn’t help but smile. Although he was in his late 70’s, the older man got it. He understood and lived by the key to getting, and staying, in great shape.

It’s all about doing what you can.

There is no right or wrong when it comes to your health.

Your health is an infinite game.

It can’t be won or lost. There’s no scoreboard. And there are a million ways to play it. To get in better shape, you have to start by doing what you can with what you have. The older man may have been in his late 70’s with a bad back and crappy knees, but he could still walk. So, he made a point to put on his tracksuit, get outside, and walk.

It didn’t matter if he used to be able to run or ride his bike. It didn’t matter if his son or younger brother could still run.

The older man understood and accepted his current situation. And then he went about his business, continuing to do what he could and what his body would allow.

To get in shape, be like the older man.

Start by doing what you can with what you have.

Accept your current fitness situation and then start working to improve it. You won’t change your health overnight, but I promise it will get better if you consistently work at it.

The key is to just start. Don’t be ashamed of your current fitness situation. Everyone has to start somewhere. But if you never start, your situation will never improve.
