(BERKELEY, Calif.) A woman was hospitalized last Wednesday after being struck by a Berkeley police cruiser and subsequently hospitalized, KRON4 reports.

According to Berkeley police and the California Highway Patrol, the woman was struck at the intersection of Allston Way and Sacramento Street at approximately 4:38 p.m. last Wednesday.

The woman was hit while in the crosswalk of Sacramento Street when the officer was attempting to make a left-hand turn from Allston way.

The CHP is investigating the incident as they are an uninvolved third party, according to Berkeley police spokesperson Officer Byron White.

The officer driving at the time of the incident told investigators that he was traveling at 10 mph when he hit the woman. She said she was experiencing pain following the collision and suffered an unspecified injury. She was initially taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution, according to White.

The officer driving at the time was not under the influence at the time of the collision and he wasn’t responding to an emergency call.

“We regret that the collision happened,” White said, but acknowledged that such accidents happen “from time to time.”
