(OAKLAND, Calif.) Oakland police arrested a 17-year-old after he allegedly led officers on a stolen car chase before getting trapped behind a utility box on the sidewalk, East Bay Times reports.

The Mercedes had been reported stolen from Oakland several days prior. Officers spotted the vehicle on Monday at approximately 12:30 p.m. and began chasing it.

The chase ensued briefly on I-880 before the suspect exited on Jackson Street and briefly drove the wrong way down 7th Street in Chinatown.

The suspect was driving the Mercedes AMG on the sidewalk near Sixth and Jackson streets to evade police and go around a homeless encampment in the 200 block of Sixth Street.

However, a utility box on the sidewalk stopped the pursuit from going any further.

Two other minors, ages 12 and 14, were also riding in the stolen vehicle. All three occupants fled from the scene after the car became trapped. The 12 and 14 year old were arrested within minutes and were later released to their guardians.

The driver was found by police in the 200 block of Seventh Street at around 12:54 p.m. where he was attempting to hide under a parked van. He surrendered shortly thereafter.

He was booked into the Alameda County juvenile facility on charges including possession of a stolen vehicle and evading police.
