Austin, TX--Zoom makes everything local. If you're a writer, you're constantly growing your skills and looking for ways to stay relevant in the ways you craft your words and reach your audience. Continuing education is part of continued growth. As life resumes normalcy, you have a unique opportunity to participate in events that used to cost hundreds or thousands of dollars to attend in person. After working from home for a year and a half or more, you're less likely to plop down big bucks for conferences when you can attend via Zoom.
During the summer months, your skills atrophy unless you continue to use and grow them. The school bell rings and class is in session. NewsBreak offers a Summer School to help writers connect, foster community, and continue growing as you craft your words.
I attended the first session from my local location in Austin. Again, Zoom makes everything local, so other local attendees were present from across the US, and Paul Feinstein and Clayton Gutzmore were panelists. Both are successful journalists who joined from their locales, Paul Feinstein from Los Angeles who focuses on food and travel, and Clayton Gutzmore from Hollywood Florida who focuses on culture and entertainment.
Both were candid and ready to share their personal expertise, as well as their favorite apps and pointers to procuring good content. Feinstein had a casual presentation and Gutmore shows up a few minutes late but dressed to the nines in a tie and sports coat. Cassie, the cheery Newsbreak host facilitated the event.
When I connected with Gutzmore on Twitter, he shared his favorite personal apps and some favored journalist lists to consider joining.
Any NewsBreak writer can join and register for the Summer School sessions here. I recommend attending if you can. Register early because spots are limited. Attend live, if you can. But, if the live time doesn't work a repay option is available.
Join online, then foster connections in your local community. You're a writer, so you know how to research. Put those skills to work in your local community. Get connected with journalists and writers in your area. Start with a Google search, meet other local writers in person and share and grow your network. I found other writer groups I wasn't aware of and I'm sure you will too.
