(MINEOLA, N.Y.) State Sen. Todd Kaminsky announced Monday he was running for Nassau County district attorney.

According to Patch, Kaminsky promised to deliver "experienced leadership" at a press conference outside the DA's office in Mineola.

He said, "Making sure that Nassau remains a wonderful and safe place for families just like ours to grow is exactly why we need steady and experienced leadership at the helm of this office."

According to Spectrum News, Nassau County Democrats nominated Kaminsky on Friday to replace former Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas, who was appointed as an associate judge for the New York Court of Appeals in early June.

“Nassau County needs a district attorney with a record of results and experience to keep our families safe — and I am ready to do the job day one," Kaminsky said. "As an assistant district attorney, federal prosecutor and legislator, I have always prioritized public safety and delivered justice for our communities. As DA, I will protect our families from violent crime, taxpayers from fraud and corruption, and the human rights of every New Yorker. Let’s get to work."

For his run, Kaminsky received endorsements from Jay Jacobs, the chairman of the Nassau Democrats, and Nassau County Executive Laura Curran.

"Under my watch, Nassau was named the safest community in America," Curran said in a statement. "There’s nothing I take more seriously than the safety of our families. As an experienced prosecutor, Senator Kaminsky has a record of supporting our law enforcement officers, working hand-in-hand with them to clean up crime and take on corruption. With Senator Kaminsky as our district attorney, the county will have a strong ally as we continue to keep Nassau families safe."

According to his campaign website, Kaminsky first took office for the 9th district after winning the April 2016 special election to fill the seat vacated by former Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, who was arrested on public corruption charges.

As a state senator, he helped to pass laws reducing illegal guns, strengthening drunk driving and hate crime provisions, addressing the opioid epidemic, securing benefits for 9/11 first-responders and more.

He currently resides in Long Beach with his wife and two young sons.

The current acting district attorney, Joyce Smith, took on the role following Singas' appointment. She is the first Black woman to hold the post in Nassau County history.
