Georgia State News- by Betty Smith
Georgia State Police are on high alert as it has been confirmed that the fugitive is in their state.
Several police agencies searched for a suspect after a Daytona Beach police officer was shot in the head and critically injured.
The 26-year-old officer has survived an emergency surgery but remains in critical condition. The journey is far from over for him.
An officer's name wasn't released right away.
Othal Wallace, 29, is the wanted suspect, according to authorities. The officer shot Wallace while escorting him out of a gray Honda HR-V. It is not immediately apparent what drew the officer's attention.
Here is the car that was captured on a Georgia highway.
More than 500 officers responded to help find Wallace, who has been confirmed to have fled to the Atlanta, Georgia area. His car was "pinged" by traffic cams.
Several ammunition boxes, a handgun, a rifle, several high-capacity magazines, and ballistic vests were found in an apartment nearby. Wallace's relationship with the apartment and the weapons is unclear.
The suspect is considered heavily armed and very dangerous.
