(LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Mich.) On Monday morning, a police officer for the city of Canton, Michigan, was allegedly killed in his Brighton, Michigan, home by his own son, Fox 2 Detroit reports.

According to Brighton police, the 18-year-old son of a Canton police officer allegedly shot and killed his father at the family's Brighton home in the 300 block of Woodlawn Drive around 10:30 a.m.

Investigators said a family member who was present in the home at the time of the shooting immediately called 911 and relayed to a dispatcher what happened and who the culprit was.

Brighton Police Chief Rob Bradford talked about speaking with the deceased police officer's son and convincing him to turn himself in.

"We were able to track him down, he called, we were able to talk to him, and talk him into turning himself in - so we do have him in custody," Bradford said.

Bradford also discussed the shocking nature of the incident.

"It's just a horrible situation- anybody who looks at what happened here is devastated," Bradford said.
