(RANDOLPH, N.J.) A New Jersey board of education changed its mind on Monday regarding a vote made earlier this year that called for all holiday names to be cleared from the school calendar, according to ABC 7.

The Randolph Board of Education gathered for a meeting where they decided to bring back the calendar as it was before their May 13 meeting, which will include all New Jersey state and federal holidays.

During the May 13 meeting, the Randolph Board of Education drew attention by voting to replace Columbus Day on its calendar with Indigenous Peoples' Day.

As a result, the public fought back at a meeting held on June 10, which led to a walkout. The board came back together to vote on removing all holiday names and list them as "Days Off" on the calendar, according to ABC 7.

The Randolph School Board distributed a statement saying their intention was mistaken.

"These state, federal and other holidays have not been canceled or taken away by this board of education as some are falsely claiming," the statement read. "Schools will still be closed on the days that we originally approved and our children will know why. Everyone should remember that the primary purpose of the school calendar is to inform parents when schools will be open and when schools will be closed."

It is unclear if any further action will take place.

The Italian American One Voice Coalition gathered Sunday for a rally against the decision and said a strong presence would be seen at the meeting Monday to voice concerns of Italian Americans and residents in general.
