A multi-vehicle accident killed 1 person and injured 4 in Phoenix (Phoenix, AZ)

On late Sunday night, one person was killed and four others suffered injuries following a multi-vehicle pileup in Phoenix.

The fatal incident took place at about 10 p.m. near 67th and Columbus Avenues. According to reports, a GMC pickup truck was going south on 67th Avenue when it rear-ended a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The impact pushed both the vehicles into the northbound lanes. The Jeep then crashed into a Ford Ranger in the northbound lane while that GMC truck struck a Toyota Camry. The driver of the Jeep fled the scene before the arrival of officers.

On arrival, paramedics transported five victims to the hospital. A 77-year-old man from the five victims, who was the passenger of the Ford Ranger, succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The other victims include the 73-year-old woman who was driving the Ranger, a man and woman in their late 20’s from the Toyota Camry, and the 62-year-man, who caused the initial crash, was driving the GMC. Investigators believe that the GMC driver might have been impaired.

An investigation is underway.
