A suspect reportedly forced entry into a deputy’s home in Houston on Sunday night. The officer’s wife and 4-year-old stepdaughter were injured in the incident, as reported by The Blaze.

How did it all happen?

During a news conference Houston Police Chief Troy Finner stated that the deputy, who was off-duty when the incident occurred, was at home in the early hours of Sunday morning. A suspect broke into the family home and began attacking everyone inside.

The deputy returned fire after his wife and stepdaughter got injured and he called backup. When more police officers arrived at the scene they discovered a red trail leading away from the house.

Finner pointed out that it is not clear if the deputy was targeted intentionally. The little girl and the deputy’s wife are both expected to make a full recovery.

“We don't know anything, what's the motive of this, if it was targeted or what, all we know is he forced entry,” Finner said, according to The Blaze.

KTVT-TV reported on Sunday that the child is in stable condition after the attack.

“Anytime a citizen gets shot in Houston, let alone a deputy's or officer's family, it's something we take seriously, but a lot of investigation has to go on with it,” Finner said.

The incident is currently being investigated. The officials have described the suspect as a Hispanic man about 5 feet 5 inches tall, Newsweek pointed out.

“We really need to get him in custody,” Finner emphasized.

The news station added that the deputy involved in the house attack had been working for the Harris County Precinct 1 for three years.
