(THE BRONX, N.Y.) A New York City Police Department officer, who was off-duty, was attacked in the Bronx with a wooden object on Monday during an altercation, according to ABC 7 NY.

The incident took place around 11:40 a.m. at the intersection of Bryant and Lafayette avenues in the Hunts Point section of the borough.

An eyewitness told ABC 7 the off-duty officer was involved in a dispute with multiple men, which broke out into a physical fight.

Officials said the group consisted of at least six people, one of which struck the off-duty cop with what is believed to be a bat or 2x4.

The witness said they did not know the victim was an officer due to him being out of uniform.

The officer was transported to Jacobi Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are actively investigating the incident and no arrests have been reported at this time.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782). Tips can also be submitted through the Crime Stoppers website at crimestoppers.nypdonline.org or by messaging on Twitter @NYPDTips. All calls are kept confidential.
