(OAKLAND, Calif.) Oakland's Tribune building will get a American brasserie-style restaurant with French influences coming this summer.

The exciting new restaurant is the collective project of Chef Omri Aflalo of Wayfare Tavern, John Cahill and Darrin Ballon. Cahill and Ballon are partners on the upcoming restaurant Town Revival. That restaurant is expected to open in 2022 after a series of delays. Both joint restaurant ventures aim to put forward a different side of Oakland dining.

Tribune, the aptly named new restaurant, will feature dishes like steak frites, a house burger, chop salads, with a variety of cocktails and wine by the bottle or by the glass. It will likely open this August after a series of pandemic-related delays.

According to a press release reported by The Oaklandside, the seasonal menu will feature some year-round standards like the Tribune Chopped Salad with chicories, avocado and radish as well as staples like the Tribune Burger.

The restaurateurs are working with Jon De La Cruz on the interior to keep much of the structural integrity of the classic newspaper building. De La Cruz has worked on a number of projects througout California including Protege, the upscale New American restaurant in Palo Alto.

Ballon is a partner in Oaktown Restaurant Group with Cahill and Aflalo, the development company that is working to open Town Revival. The widely anticipated fusion restaurant mixes cuisines from all over the world, with a local flavor, to give patrons a cacophony of flavor.

Due in large part to pandemic restrictions, the partners took Town Revival mobile, setting it up as a pop-up with locations announced on its Instagram.

The initial menu was a mixture of Italian flavors with more Morroccan dishes like cous-cous next to whole fish. Additionally, once fully up and running they will feature live-fire cooking for lamb shoulder and steak. A full sample menu for Town Revival can be viewed here.

The widely anticipated openings of both Town Revival and Tribune will bring a new flare to a stifled dining scene post pandemic in Oakland. Both will pair local know-how with an array of cuisines to create an exciting new dining experience. Tribune is slated to open in August and Town Revival will likely open around the same time.
