(SHAFTSBURY, Vt.) A man from New York totaled his car in Shaftsbury early Monday morning after supposedly driving under the influence of prescription drugs.

Vermont State Police reported that the man from Cambridge, N.Y., was driving on White Creek Road when he veered off the roadway into a ditch and then crashed into a copse.

Troopers from the Shaftsbury barracks responded to the crash at approximately 4:35 a.m. and found the driver with minor to no injuries.

The Nissan Frontier was totaled and the driver was taken to the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for further evaluation.

An initial investigation revealed that the driver may have been driving under the influence of prescription drugs. State troopers issued the man a DUI citation and he is set to appear in Bennington Superior Court on Aug. 23.
