Three police officers were assaulted on Saturday by a teenager while they were taking a woman into custody in Maikiki. The 17-year-old boy was apparently a friend of the suspect they were attempting to arrest.

What are the details?

Police officers said that a 17-year-old boy was taken into custody on three counts of assaulting a law enforcement officer. The teenager is under arrest while the investigation is pending.

The assaults took place on Saturday evening, at around 7:55 p.m. in Maikiki.

As stated by the Honolulu Police Department, the boy attacked a patrol officer while he was arresting a woman who was his friend.

A second police officer, who was assisting the other official, also got attacked while trying to place the teenager in custody. The juvenile then went on to assault a third police officer while the other two officials were attempting to place him in the police vehicle.

All three officers received treatment for their injuries at a local area hospital after the Maikiki incident.

Standing up for your friends is an honorable thing to do, but then they’re being taken into custody the more practical solution is not outright fighting, but rather legal support for a possible defense in court.

It is not clear if the juvenile was trying to stop the arrest or was in any way involved in the activities the woman was arrested for. Investigation continues while a motive is being sought. In the meantime, the teenager is under arrest after the violent incident that shocked the Maikiki community.
