Some Republicans want Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to be the presidential nominee for 2024. In a poll designed to see who's more popular amongst GOP voters, the Florida state governor received 74.12 percent of the vote, while Trump received 71.43 percent.

The Western Conservative Summit, an annual meeting of conservative voters with hundreds of attendees and tens of thousands of people watching it live online, conducted the survey online. Texas Senator Ted Cruz came in third, with 42.86 percent of the vote, followed by former US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo with 39.35 percent and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott with 35.58 percent.

Despite DeSantis' popularity among Republicans, it's conceivable that he may not run for President. Instead, many people have speculated that he may be Donald Trump's Vice-Presidential candidate if he runs for a second term.

In an interview with Fox Business, Trump said: "He's a friend of mine. I endorsed Ron, and after I endorsed him, he took off like a rocket ship. He's done a great job as governor. A lot of people like that. I'm just saying what I read and what you read. They love that ticket. But certainly, Ron would be considered. He's a great guy."

In a fundraising appeal, DeSantis made a comment that attracted a lot of media attention: "Everyone told me I was wrong. I faced continued pressure from radical Democrats and the liberal media, but I refused to back down. It's clear: Florida got it right."

Many parts of the country are still under heavy Covid-19 restrictions. However, Florida's "hands-off approach" has undoubtedly paid off. While many other governors are figuring out how to reopen the economy, Florida's economy is booming. Quoting an interview with DeSantis on Fox Business:

"Every parent in Florida has the right to send their child to in-person instruction, every worker has a right to work and earn a living and put food on their table, and every business has the right to operate and consequently, our state is doing very well compared to these other states in terms of education and economy."
