What You Need to Know
- People who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can resume activities they did before the pandemic.
- Vaccines from Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson are currently approved by FDA for Emergency Use Authorization.
- People from diverse races and ethnicities tested the vaccines in large clinics trials to prove they are safe and highly effective.
- The vaccine is working and helping to keep people out of the hospital or getting seriously ill.
- The Pfizer vaccine showed 95% effectiveness in clinical studies, the Moderna vaccine showed 94% effectiveness, and the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) vaccine showed 66.3% effectiveness.
- The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines require two doses for maximum protection, so people will need to get a second dose of the same vaccine three to six (Pfizer) or four to six (Moderna) weeks later. While the J&J vaccine only requires a single dose.
- You should be vaccinated regardless of whether you already had COVID-19. That’s because experts do not yet know how long you are protected from getting sick again after recovering from COVID-19. Contact your local doctor on when you should get the vaccine if you have been tested positive before.
Getting vaccinated does not require ID, proof of residency, citizenship, or insurance. People age 12 and older are eligible for COVID-19 vaccination.
