Cicadas are getting all the buzz in the news for some time now. So, a restaurant in Dayton, Ohio named 'The Pizza Bandit' decided to put the buzzy insect on their pizza as a topping.

At their customers' request, the pizzeria made a pizza with delicious cicadas as toppings and called it “Spicy Thai Cicada Pie”.

“From a distance, this pie looks delightful but once you get closer you realize those are no raisins…,” - The Pizza Bandit in Facebook post

The pizzeria made an 18-inch pizza hand-tossed and topped with locally sourced crispy cicadas, among other toppings. The pizza was spiced up by using Thai sauce.

Cicadas are low-fat and contain a lot of protein. These edible insects have a nutty flavor that tastes similar to pork meat. Their texture is like any other meat with crispy wings and legs after they are cooked.

“These crunchy cicadas add a heck of a note to an otherwise wonderful Thai inspired pie,” - The Pizza Bandit

However, not everyone will fancy eating insects, even if they are served on pizza with lots of cheese. The mere thought of eating insects might be cringe-worthy for some.

According to the restaurant, their adventure with cicada toppings was just a one-time experiment.

The restaurant made a funny post on their Facebook page about how the Cicadas are retreating underground because of their pizza experiment.
