Smaller Chicago Breweries that pack a punch!
A beautiful day, some good music, and an ice cold beer. That sounds like a recipe for a perfect summer day to us. This summer were going to be heading out to our favorite smaller breweries in Chicago to enjoy the Second City.
Chicago is a great brewery city. It doesn’t matter whether we are at a baseball game, a backyard BBQ, or just finishing up a hard work week, a beer in our hand is just what the doctor ordered. We enjoy the big ones like Lagunitas and Goose Island, but we wanted to highlight some of the small but mighty brewers that are bringing the heat with some ice-cold brews.
Dovetail Brewery
Located in Ravenswood this taproom likes to brew old school. Dovetail brews their beers in a European style with an American sensibility. Hagen and Bill are the two brewers here that claim to “Brew Like monks (minus the vows).” All that really means is that these two take their jobs very seriously.
We love this spot, having spent a few summer nights sitting on their patio and enjoying their tasty brews. Not only do they serve up amazing beers, but they are also dog friendly in their outdoor spaces! They don’t serve food, but you can bring your own, or you might be able to find a food truck nearby.
Dovetail Brewery is located at 1800 W. Belle Plaine, Chicago, IL.
Begyle Brewing
This has long been one of our favorites in the city. Begyle is only a few blocks away from Dovetail in Ravenswood and they also know how to bring it with their delicious drafts. You can sit inside the brewhouse or enjoy their biergarten and patio. Their beers have great names like Begyle Boat Shoes or All Gussied Up. Grab a beer and enjoy patio season, or you can grab a growler and bring it to your next party.

Half Acre Beer Company
Half Acre is a delicious brewery that is actually not as small as it once was. They recently expanded to a new brewing location on Balmoral and they have upped their food game with a brand-new chef. Their Balmoral Beer Garden is easily becoming the coolest place to be. Snack on some cheese curds and sip on a Daisy Cutter or a Pony Pilsner. If they keep growing, they’ll have to change their name to the Whole Acre!

Metropolitan Brewing
This brewery has the perfect setting for some outdoor summer beers. Check out this warehouse taproom and sit out on their riverside patio while you sip beers such as their Krankshaft Kolsch or their Flywheel Pilsner. You can bring in your own food and your four-legged friends are welcome on the patio! We’re looking forward to us spending a few summer evenings along the river this summer!
Metroplitan Brewing is located on 3057 Rockwell Street, Chicago, IL.
Empirical Brewery
Empirical Brewery is another great Ravenswood taproom. Their mission is to use a scientific approach to exploring new styles in order to make the best beers possible. You can hang out in their taproom or sit outside on their patio. If you are hungry, you can bring your own food or order from a few local neighborhood spots and have it delivered right to your table.
Another great thing about Empirical is that they are dog friendly! All of their beers have scientific names so order a Covalence Pale Ale or a Proton IPA and try to remember what you forgot from high school science!

Corridor Brewery and Provisions
Corridor Brewery and Provisions is a great place for a Saturday summer afternoon. They are located on Southport in Lakeview and not only do they brew their own beer, but they serve up a mean burger as well! It’s one of our favorites in the city.
Most of the places on this list distribute to bars and restaurants but not Corridor. Their brews are only available at the brewery or for growlers to go. They have a great patio and they do allow your pup to sit outside with you!
