(OAKLAND, Calif.) A shooting near an Oakland, California Juneteenth celebration left a 22-year-old dead and five others injured, according to ABC News

The man was pronounced dead at a hospital after shots were fired, Saturday evening near Lake Merritt.

It is unclear whether the shooting was connected to the festivities commemorating the formal end to slavery.

ABC News reports the other male victims, who range from age 16 to 27, and a woman in her 20s was hospitalized in stable condition.

Police said two men who ran from the incident were arrested, though it is unknown whether they were responsible.

“Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a guy with a gun pointing at a car. Everyone started sprinting and screaming," said Andrew Simpson, a jogger nearby the shooting, to the Bay Area News Group.

Other witnesses said people ran into the water when shots erupted.

“Tonight a joyous occasion at our Lake Merritt was marred by a senseless act of gun violence,” said Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf in a statement.

ABC 7 News reporter Jobina Fortson said in a tweet that investigators are offering $40,000 leading to the arrests of the people responsible.
