American Airlines canceled hundreds of flights this weekend and for Monday as staffing and maintenance issues linger, according to ABC News.

Monday's cancellations come after the airliner cut 178 flights on Sunday and 123 flights on Saturday. American canceled 97 flights for Monday due to a significant number of sick calls, staffing and other technical issues.

“We made targeted changes with the goal of impacting the fewest number of customers by adjusting flights in markets where we have multiple options for re-accommodation,” American Airlines said in a statement.

American canceled most flights on their A320 and 737 aircrafts, but it may be forced to continue canceling at least 50 to 60 flights a day through June and 50 to 80 flights a day in July.

The company said it will notify customers the status of their flights in advance and allow customers to rebook alternative flights through its app if canceled.

ABC News reports since air travel came to a screeching halt in March 2020, thousands of travel employees were offered early retirements and buyouts to leave.

However, airlines are desperate to fill these roles again as American also struggles to fill their catering contractors and wheelchair operators.
