As you might expect, several well-known people have lived in San Diego over the past few years. So without further delay, here are several famous names that you might recognize:
Eddie Borysewicz
Edward Borysewicz, often known as "Eddie B," was a bicycle coach who elevated the United States to international prominence despite speaking little English at the time. Under his leadership, the United States won nine medals in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. It was the first time since 1912 that an American has earned a medal. In 1969, Audrey McElmury won the World Road Cycling Championships, and Beth Heiden won in 1980.
He was a resident of Ramona, California. The Cedar Fire, which ravaged San Diego County in 2003, destroyed his home. Eddie got almost 600 emails in response to his death from friends and riders all around the world. Thankfully, Eddie was able to restore his home thanks to $120,000 in donations.
David Justice
Justice, David Christopher, is a former Major League Baseball outfielder and designated hitter who played for the Atlanta Braves (1989–1996), Cleveland Indians (1997–2000), New York Yankees (2000–2001), and Oakland Athletics (2002). Justice was a three-time MLB All-Star and won the National League Rookie of the Year Award in 1990.
Justice worked as a commentator on ESPN baseball broadcasts for two years following his playing career. Later, he worked as a game and studio commentator for the New York Yankees' YES Network and hosted the network's youth-oriented program Yankees on Deck. The YES Network announced before the 2008 season that Justice would not appear on broadcast but would write articles for the network's website.
Jimmie Johnson
Jimmie Kenneth Johnson is an American professional auto racing driver who competes in the NTT IndyCar Series for Chip Ganassi Racing, driving the No. 48 Honda, and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for Ally Cadillac Racing, driving the No. 48 Cadillac on a part-time schedule.
He was a seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion who raced full-time for Hendrick Motorsports from 2002 to 2020, driving the No. 48 Chevrolet. He then moved on to open-wheel racing. Johnson's seven Cup titles, the first five of which were consecutive, are tied for the most in NASCAR history with Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt; his achievements have led many pundits and fellow drivers to regard Johnson as one of the best drivers of all time.
