(WASHINGTON) Independent Sen. Bernie Sanders told NBC News that he does not support provisions of the bipartisan infrastructure bill, including raising the gas tax, issuing fees on electric vehicles or privatizing infrastructure, per The Hill.

However, Sanders told "Meet the Press" host Chuck Todd that the bipartisan bill was generally worthwhile.

"What is in the bipartisan bill in terms of spending is, from what I can see, mostly good," he said. "It is roads and bridges, and we need to do that. That is what we are proposing in our legislation but in much greater numbers."

Sanders said he was unable to commit to standing in the way of a bipartisan deal rather than a strictly Democratic reconciliation bill, without GOP support.

He told Todd he's unable to commit his support without first making certain of what the bipartisan measure includes.

"So if it is roads and bridges, yeah, of course, we need to do that, and I support that," the Vermont senator said. "If it is regressive taxation, you know, raising the gas tax or a fee on electric vehicles or the privatization of infrastructure, no, I wouldn't support it. So we don't have the details right now."

South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsay Graham encouraged President Joe Biden to support the bipartisan $1 trillion infrastructure proposal to help ensure his legacy.

"You've got to decide what kind of president you are and what kind of presidency you want," Graham said on "Fox News Sunday."
