Janesville Police have revealed that a woman who was shot early on Saturday was most likely trying to set her ex-boyfriend’s house on fire. A police sergeant told The Gazette about the probable intentions the woman had on Saturday afternoon.

What are the details?

Janesville police Sgt. Brian Vaughn said the 58-year-old woman was transferred from a hospital in Janesville to UW Hospital in Madison to get adequate treatment. He did not have an update on her condition yet.

On Saturday afternoon the police did not technically arrest the woman who suffered several life-threatening injuries. The ex-boyfriend used his gun, considering the woman was an intruder on his property.

However, the sergeant stated that the police are expecting to take her into custody later, depending on her health.

The final decision related to any charges rests with the district attorney's office. Nothing is final for now as the investigation continues. Vaughn also said that it did not appear that the ex-boyfriend would get into trouble for using his gun, even though the woman got hurt.

The police responded to a call for help at 1:31 a.m. placed from a home on the 400 block of South Ringold Street, as stated in a news release.

Vaughn said the homeowner was inside and he saw the woman on his security cameras. She seemed to be spraying some kind of liquid on the house. That’s when a “confrontation” started, according to Yahoo News.

“All parties involved are cooperating with the police,” the release mentions. The names of those involved have not been published yet.

The investigation is continuing, and the authorities are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 608-757-2244 or the Janesville Area Crime Stoppers at 608-756-3636.

Police do not believe there is any threat to the surrounding Janesville area.
