ST. LOUIS, MO — Capacity building activities is one of the works of the Missouri Botanical garden in support of plant conservation in the area.

The garden’s mission is conducting extensive training and environmental awareness activities both in the region of St. Louis and around the world.

Their capacity-building efforts are designed to benefit citizens living around the communities by helping them develop the knowledge, skills, and motivation for them to take care of the environment and use the resources sustainably.

The garden’s mission internationally is dedicated to growing the capacity of citizens in a biodiversity-rich country to carry effective, sustainable conservation from their natural resources.

A partnership between the garden, institutions, and organizations is fundamental to the garden’s international programs and crucial in shaping capacity-building programs.

In addition, the garden has been adding activities to institutional strengthening that include professional training of botanical scientists, ecologists, and plant conservationists at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

They provide conservation training and sustainable development communities, as well as giving courses for park guards and government officials.

The garden carries out educational and interpretative programs with goals to engage people of all ages in learning about plant diversity and offer ways to protect the ecosystem by conserving plants.

The Missouri Botanical Garden has been committed to goals and principles of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation since 2002. The Global Strategy included a stop in the continuing loss of plant diversity and secure a sustainable future where human activities support the diversity of plant life.

The Global Strategy recently updated its 16 global targets set for 2020 and provided a framework to facilitate harmony. Presently, the garden fully supported and advanced the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation goals and actively contributed to conservation strategy.
