MENTOR, CLEVELAND, OH — The City of Mentor runs a Street Tree program to help manage stormwater runoff while beautifying the streetscapes.

Each year, trees are distributed to Mentor homeowners on a first-come, first-served basis and are put in the public right-of-way by city workers.

Complete the Mentor Street Tree Order Form to have a street tree planted on your property. If there is a dead tree or stump on your tree lawn, the landowner must remove it before you can plant a new tree. Permission is required for the removal of any street tree.

Once the tree is installed, care and maintenance of the new tree are the property owner's responsibility.

There are more than 24,000 trees in Mentor's urban forest which comprises all public trees inside the public right-of-way (tree lawns), parks, and other public properties.

Mentor was recognized as a 2020 Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation for the 33rd year in celebration of its commitment to excellent urban forest management.

Residents are welcome to contact the Public Works Department at (440) 974-5781 or pubworks@cityofmentor.com if you have any questions about the Mentor Street Tree Program or other tree-related activities.

Mentor's Master Street Tree Plan is established and administered by the Mentor Tree Commission, made up of four members. The City Council elects members for four-year terms.

The Commission meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in the Mentor Municipal Center's Second Floor Conference Room. The public is welcome to attend these meetings.

Dave Henschel, Chairman, Dick Douglas, VC & Secretary, Cindy Code Fenner, and Rodd Schroeder make up the 2021 Tree Commission. The Commission facilitates the initiative in collaboration with Matt Schweikert, Mentor Public Works Director, and Ben Askren, City Arborist.
