West Salem, Ohio

An innocent bystander was killed after a shootout at a drag race in Ohio, and three others were injured.

A criminal complaint has been filed against Jonathan Paul Roman Perez for felony assault. He is being treated for injuries that are not life-threatening at a hospital, where he is being held under guard.

The shootout took place at Dragway 42 in West Salem, Ohio.

Apparently, Perez drove his pickup truck recklessly in a parking lot and sprayed gravel in the direction of nearby vehicles, according to witnesses. Perez was yelled at by some nearby people, leading to a physical altercation.

Using a handgun, Perez shot multiple times. Another individual retaliated by firing back at Perez, and over 20 rounds were exchanged in total before Perez drove away.

Cleveland, Ohio resident Luis Cuevas, 33, died of his wounds after being shot at least once. It has been confirmed that Cuevas and the three injured were not involved in the shooting.

Despite being detained for questioning, the individual who returned fire on the pickup truck driver has not been charged. Police said the person possesses a concealed firearm weapons permit.

More arrests could be made, according to authorities.
