A 72-year-old woman dies after vehicle rolls into retention pond in Bee Cave (Bee Cave, TX)

On Wednesday night, a 72-year-old woman, a resident of Travis County, lost her life after a vehicle rolled into a retention pond in Bee Cave.

The fatal incident took place at the intersection of Market Street and Galleria Circle at about 9 p.m. According to Austin-Travis County EMS, they got news of a car that rolled into retention pond and is upside down in the water. On arrival, medics removed someone from the vehicle and started CPR.

The Bee Cave Police Department later declared the woman deceased at the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center Lakeway on Wednesday at about 10:10 p.m. Police reported that an officer entered the pond, which was holding an approximate depth of 18” to 24” of water. The officer tried to open the vehicle’s door, but the door was locked and partly sunk in the mud. Rescuers used tools to open the door.

An investigation is ongoing.
