Authorities identified 28-year-old Gaze Mohammed as the man who lost his life last week after leaving his car on an East Bay freeway and being hit by another car.
As per California Highway Patrol, Gaze Mohammed, 28, a resident of Hayward, struck equipment near a construction zone on southbound Interstate 880, then was fatally struck by another vehicle as he stood in a freeway lane. The incident took place at about 11 p.m. June 10 near the Alvarado Boulevard in Fremont.
Mohammed succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A final autopsy report that will determine whether he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol has not been revealed yet. The CHP said in a statement that Mohammed ran a Toyota Camry into a metal and plastic attenuator that began the split of the Nos. 3 and 4 lanes for a construction project on the freeway.
The collision disabled the Toyota, and it came to a stop in the No. 3 lane but facing the northbound direction. Mohammed came out of the car and was fatally hit by a Ford Fusion, the CHP mentioned. The Ford’s driver did not seem to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and responded to CHP questions, the agency said.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
