The Contra Costa County coroner’s office identified 16-year-old Matias Rogers, a resident of Brentwood, who lost his life following a head-on collision in unincorporated Knightsen on Wednesday evening.
The two-vehicle accident was reported at about 5:35 p.m. on Sellers Avenue just south of Delta Road in the eastern part of the county. On arrival, officials declared Rogers deceased. He was driving a 2015 Acura sedan with a 15-year-old boy as a passenger who sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, California Highway Patrol said.
The other vehicle involved in the crash was a 2003 Ford pickup truck and its driver, a 19-year-old Discovery Bay man, was also taken to the hospital in Walnut Creek with serious injuries. CHP investigators found out that Rogers was driving the Acura south on Sellers Avenue when, for reasons unknown, it swerved into the northbound lane of the road directly into the way of the pickup truck.
An investigation is continuing.
