Maybe some spaghetti and meatballs, a bottle of red, and a bottle of white? You can make a scene at various excellent Italian restaurants in Las Vegas, especially if you leave the cooking to the professionals. Traditional favorites sit next to innovative upstarts and everything in-between (and there are even some great pizza places).

Here are the finest places to eat Italian food in Nevada:

1. Chicago Joe's, Nevada

The style of Nevada meets the comforts of home in a historic family home. This is one reason to skip Fremont Street entirely and head Downtown instead. Then, turn down Fourth Street near the Arts District and keep an eye out for Chicago Joe's, an old brick house that was transformed into a cozy Italian joint four decades ago. Since then, loyal regulars, including members of the mob, frequent the place. When it comes to Italian restaurants, mobsters know best. In addition to the Christmas lights, you can enjoy other traditional dishes on the menu all year long, such as baked rigatoni.

2. Ferraro's, Nevada

With a 60-page wine list and a menu based on family tradition

The Ferraro's family has operated the business since 1985, offering traditional favorites and non-traditional dishes, all made with all-natural meat and seafood. Spiced tripe, as well as a braised rabbit (Coniglio's breast), are both delicious. Additionally, the restaurant offers one of the best wine selections in Las Vegas and offers some of the best tasting events and pairing dinners you will ever attend. An excellent spot for casual wine drinkers who want to know the difference between "Chianti" and "Chianti Classico." If you're hungry late at night, the bar serves food until 2 am.

3. Costa di Mare, Nevada

A great patio and koi pond accompany the daily seafood catch.

The cuisine at this elegant fine dining spot embraces the flavors of the Mediterranean and focuses on seafood. The Wynn Resorts are packed with upscale restaurants, and Costa di Mare is one of the most stylish and comfortable, with a fabulous outside patio surrounding a koi pond. You can select from a variety of fish and shellfish flown in from Italian waters every day. You won't need to worry if you see something move; those are just langoustines, small European lobsters that will help make your dinner special.

4. Rao's, Nevada

The legendary New York restaurant is faithfully recreated but with better seating. The waiting list for Rao's in New York is so notoriously long, and someone thought it would be fun to open a second location that's the same thing, just a little more significant -- which means everyone gets a fair chance to try out their famous signature meatballs. In addition, the same family is deeply involved in both restaurants, ensuring that the experience is as identical as possible.

5. Piero's, Nevada

The best seafood soup in Vegas is just off the Strip (and a great Vegas tradition). In addition to authentic Italian fare, Piero's has been a popular spot for romantic dinners, business lunch meetings, and meetings near the Convention Center for more than 30 years. Since it opened in 1987, it has hosted several celebrities, including two US presidents. Zuppa di Pesce is the house specialty: a soup loaded with seafood - lobster, clams, mussels, shrimps, scallops, and calamari.
