SAINT PAUL, MN — Partners in Living is a part of Partners in Policymaking of Council on Developmental Disabilities. It is a course that aims to support people with developmental disabilities through inclusive education, competitive community employment, independent living and community inclusion.
Partners in Living provides some valuable programs where people can to learn about life itself. The course will cover topics such as self determination, the importance of family support, how living independently and interdependently could co-exist and how technology has an important role for people with disabilities.
People who join Partners in Living will learn about common elements of life, that people with disabilities also have the rights to be treated with dignity and respect. Partners in Living support the efforts to stop the use of demeaning terms and labels directed to people with developmental disabilities.
Partners in Living will teach people about independence and interdependence, as well as critical legislation that extended civil rights protection and opened new opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to live, learn, work and participate in communities.
This program also provides lesson regarding self determination, the importance of personal choice and person-centered planning and how to use Medicaid Waivers and other resources to build a life in communities where people with developmental disabilities are supported and valued.
Last but not the least, Partners in Living also allows people to explore community living and community inclusion—including independent living, accessible housing options and the impact of assistive technology on independence and community inclusion.
