If you live in the Bay Area and have been on the hunt for authentic pho, you must check out Joe’s Pho in San Leandro. Located on Hesperian Boulevard, you’ll find Joe’s Pho in a plaza filled with plenty of parking and other shops to visit as you are done eating. As of now, they currently have indoor and outdoor seating depending on your preference. Their indoors is pretty big and can fit a lot of tables and parties but I am glad they also opened outdoor dining for those who do not want to dine in yet. No matter what time and day you visit Joe’s Pho, there is always a long line out the door especially during the weekends at lunchtime. I have been here plenty of times and love how they have an extensive menu of Phos and classic Vietnamese dishes. The highlight of their menu is their bun bo hue which is spicy Vietnamese beef noodle soup. Joe’s Pho has a page dedicated to their bun bo hue and you can choose the type of meat you would like ranging from their classic combination of meats to beef rib, filet mignon steak, meatballs, and more. As their name suggests, they are also known for their Pho and you can find any possible combination of meat on the menu. They also have a smoothie and boba shop in the restaurant as well so it is the perfect place to visit if you are looking for a delicious bowl of noodles and boba to pair with your meal.

I tried several items from Joe’s Pho and find myself coming back to BBH8 which is their bun bo hue with beef ribs. When the bowl arrives, you immediately see how massive the beef ribs are and since they are so tender, it immediately falls apart from the bone when you eat it. The broth is also not overly spicy and has an amazing kick to it. I also love how they use fresh noodles so it has a nice and chewy texture to it. You can choose the size of your bowl and the small size is always enough for me since the portions are huge here. The prices here are more on the expensive side since you are looking at about $12 and up for each dish, however, the quality and taste are up there so I think it is worth it.

Overall, this is a solid place for Vietnamese noodle soups especially their bun bo hue. I would have to say it is one of the best in the Bay Area and the long lines and reviews are not lying. Make sure to come early to beat the lunch and dinner crowds during the weekend or order to-go.
