Residents of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin will soon have another option for beating the summer heat. The Bernard F. Willi outdoor pool is set to open on Saturday, June 19th and is scheduled to remain open until August 15th.

The pool remained closed all of last summer due to concerns with the pandemic. Earlier this spring, pool staff was hard at work cleaning and repainting the pool in preparation for the reopening.

The Bernard F. Willi pool is located across the street from the entrance to Irvine Park. Daily admission is only 3.00 with infants under a year old admitted for free.

The pool features a shallow area that is ideal for toddlers. There is also a large slide that offers theme park style thrills in the comfort of your home neighborhood. To use the slide, swimmers must be 42 inches tall. The pool is sufficiently staffed so that children are caught at the bottom. This helps ensure a safe and fun day at the pool.

The pool is named after Bernard F. Willi, a longtime Chippewa Falls resident who passed away in 2019. He worked for the US Postal Service and served in the US Navy in World War II.

Traditionally, the pool hosts a dog swim day at the end of the season. Everyone is welcome to bring their dog to the pool. In the past, the entrance fee has been $5 per dog, but that is subject to change. The date of the dog swim day should take place sometime after August 15th. Be advised that pets are prohibited at the pool during normal operation.

The Bernard F. Willi pool is always well staffed and is a safe and enjoyable place for a family to spend the day. There are green areas surrounding the pool which are ideal for sunbathing, or drying off after a swim.

Just as with all other local swimming areas, glass or other breakable items that might pose a danger to swimmers are prohibited at the pool. This message bears repeating because, despite the warning, shards of glass are almost always present at local parks and beaches. If you see anyone carrying a glass bottle, please offer them a gentle reminder that glass is prohibited.

The pool will be open daily from Wednesday to Sunday from 12 to 5PM. Pool capacity is 200 people.

Pool staff remains vigilant for inclement weather. If lightning is sighted, the pool is closed for thirty minutes. If the heat index goes above 85, the pool will close for ten minutes every hour to ensure the safety of the lifeguards. In the case of extreme weather, the pool will close for the day.

The reopening of the Bernard F. Willi pool is yet another indication that life is returning to normal in the Chippewa Valley. This is a wonderful area pool that has something to offer for swimmers of all ages. It’s a great place to cool off and enjoy gathering together with other members of the local community.

A local pool is the perfect place to cool off and create wonderful summer memories. The residents of Chippewa Falls are excited to have the Bernard F. Willi pool ready to open once again.
